Looking at my preliminary task and comparing it to my final media product it’s easy to say that my magazine production skills have improved. My Music Magazine cover is a large improvement compared to the Preliminary Cover, the layout has improved, a better selection of fonts have been used etc. overall it looks miles better.

If you look at my two mastheads, you’d have noticed that in my Preliminary task, all I did was use a random font and just edited the size and made it bold. Where as in my Final product I have selected a font from the CSI drama show, enlarged it as well as adding a green stroke around the lettering making it appear more visible and eye-catching.
There are multiple differences in my Preliminary task and my final Media Product but there are also some similarities. They both have the same modes of address and they both have a small picture followed by a cover line. It’s fair to say that the conventional devices that I have used in my Preliminary task cover looks as if it was from a newspaper because of the way everything is aligned and the font I’ve used looks too formal and it doesn’t go well with the informal appearance of the masthead.

The Contents page of my preliminary task is terrible compared to my Music Magazine's Contents Page. When I first created it was actually happy with it, but after looking at many different magazines and paying attention to their Contents page I eventually realised how bad it actually was, there wasn't any images, lack of pages, the colour scheme I used isn't nice and the layout out of the Contents page was also a bad choice, it resembled the layout of a children's story book rather than a music magazine.

I feel that my Music Magazine's Contents page has taken care of the issues that my Preliminary Contents page had and now my Music Magazine's Contents page looks great.

Evaluation Question 2

My model and NME’s magazine cover containing peter Doherty are very similar, this should be instantly obvious because they both are using extremely similar poses as well as similar facial expressions.


SHOT TYPE: Both images have been captured in medium close-up range.

ANGLE: Both images have been taken from an angle which is directly in front of the photographer.

POSE: Both models have tilted their head slightly to the left.
Head-tilt-pose may be used
A. to show friendliness and foster rapport; B. to show coyness, as in courtship; C. to strike a submissive pose (e.g., to show deference to one's boss); and D. to respond to cute signs (i.e., to immature cues emanating, e.g., from kittens, puppies, and babies).

COSTUME: Both models are wearing fairly simplistic clothing. They are both wearing hats and both wearing a t-shirt although it appears that Peter Doherty is wearing a blazer also.

EXPRESSION: Expression: Both model poses a “Blank Expression”.
A blank expression is a facial expression characterized by the neutral position of facial features and implies a lack of strong emotion. It may be caused by a lack of emotion, boredom and even a deliberate attempt to disguise one's emotions, such as when playing poker for example.

HAIR: This is one way in which my model differs from NME’s model (Peter Doherty).
My models hair has been “Cornrowed”, this is a traditional African style of hair grooming where the hair is braided very close to the scalp and typically worn by either Men or Females. Doherty has a short and shaggy hair style which is basically short layered hair with short bangs and extreme texture and usually defined by using hair gel.
